Release Notes

What the assistant can do on your beat board:

• Read the board: Analyse what’s already there and summarise it so you see the shape of your story without scanning every card.
• List and filter cards: Retrieve cards by status, completion, or keywords, or pull up full detail for a single card when you need it.
• Create cards: Add new cards or several at once, including from a structure or template you describe. Try adding in a script or text file and let Scriptor assistant turn it into beat board cards.
• Update cards: Change titles, descriptions, plot points, status, colour, and completion. This includes bulk updates when the same change should apply to many cards.
• Delete cards: Remove specific cards, clear a board, or delete in bulk when you’re resetting a pass.
• Move cards: Change order or move cards between containers so the board matches how you think.
• Rename containers: Update labels on columns or sections so the board stays organised as the draft changes.
• Undo: Revert the most recent change when something lands in the wrong place.

Convert Final Draft Scripts in Scriptor:

• Free for all: Import and convert Final Draft (.fdx) scripts into Scriptor at no cost. No subscription required.
• One place to work: Upload a .fdx file and we convert it to a Scriptor screenplay. Keep working in one place without switching tools.
• Why it matters: Writers moving from Final Draft can try Scriptor with their own material from day one. The tool serves the writer, we’ve removed the paywall so the conversion step doesn’t get in the way.

Fixes & improvements:

• Updated placeholders in the Screenplay Editor to make each element clearer and easier to understand.
• Added an inline title page button at the top of the screenplay for quick title page edits.

Whiteboard support

• Context from whiteboards: When you attach or have a whiteboard open, Scriptor assistant now uses it as context.
• Visual interpretation: Scriptor assistant interprets whiteboards in terms of story and flow (e.g. story beats, sequence, ideas).

Smarter model

• Brains to burn: The main chat assistant now runs on a more capable model, so you get better reasoning, clearer answers, and more reliable use of your project and file context.

Improved tools

• Screenplays & text files: Read and analyse scripts and text files when you attach them or refer to them.
• Beat boards: Read beat board structure and cards to summarise, suggest beats, or spot gaps.
• Projects & search: List your projects, list files in a project, and search files by name so answers can reference your real project structure.

Fixes & improvements

• Panel editing and autosave: When you edit a file in the side panel, saves now update the main editor and file list correctly. The panel respects each file’s “autosave on/off” setting. If autosave is off for that file, the panel header now shows an “Autosave off” label so you know to save with Cmd/Ctrl+S or turn autosave on in the main editor.
• Editor stability: The screenplay editor (panel and full page) is more robust. We fixed edge cases where the editor could misbehave or call re-render unnecessarily. The new experience is now much smoother.

Screenplay & Text Editors

• AutoSave Toggle: Added a new "Auto Save" switch in the editor menus.
• Conditional Saving: The editors now strictly respect the toggle. If turned off, they will only save when you explicitly tell them to.

CMD/CTRL + S

• Toast Notifications: You'll now see a "File saved" confirmation when saving manually in panel view.
• Sync Logic: Files opened in panel view now correctly respect the file's save setting.

Scriptor Assistant Chat Improvement:

• Streamlined Input: Selected files now reside in the input footer. Keeps your workspace clean while maintaining context.
• Clearer Context: New "Searching," "Thinking," and "Generating" states provide elegant visual feedback, so you know exactly what the Assistant is doing in real-time.
• Enhanced Legibility: We’ve overhauled how the Assistant renders text using the latest typography standards. AI responses now feature better spacing, clearer list structures, and improved heading hierarchy, making long-form suggestions much easier to read.
• Quiet Actions: File removal is hidden until you need it. Hover over any file badge to reveal the close option.
• Unified Design: Icon sizes and colours have been standardised across the chat panel. Consistent visual language for a smoother experience.

New PDF Export Option:

• Page Numbers: You can now add page numbers to scripts when exporting to PDF. This follows the standard screenplay convention: no number on the title page, no visible number on the first page of the script (which is treated as page 1), and then page numbers appearing in the top-right corner starting from page 2 onward.

Screenplay Editor:

• Tab Auto Switch: You can now toggle the "Tab Auto Switch" feature within the editor menu. This gives you control over whether the editor automatically moves to the next most likely screenplay element.

The new core architecture brings a consistent, polished aesthetic across every editor within Scriptor and unlocks powerful enhancements: buttery-smooth, fluid transitions on the Beat Board; expanded keyboard shortcuts for rapid card creation and navigation; and more capable multi-select for precise bulk actions. Built from the ground up, this foundation accelerates development and deepens integration across all Scriptor editors. Scriptor Assistant now runs on the latest OpenAI models for smarter, faster help.

Editor & UX Enhancements:

• International Character Support: The Story Map now utilises Unicode-aware extraction, enabling perfect character detection for Vietnamese and other non-Latin scripts.
• Standardised Workspace Actions: Rename, Share, and Delete workflows are now consistent across the Screenplay Editor, Whiteboard, and Beat Board for a more intuitive workflow.
• Reimagined Overlays: Rebuilt all core dialogs, menus, and tooltips with improved accessibility and reliable positioning on all screen sizes.

Beta News:

• Playwriting Editor: Our dedicated editor for stage plays has officially entered closed beta! We’re working closely with early testers to refine the experience - stay tuned for more updates soon.

No more accidental deletes:

• Deleted files are automatically backed up for 30 days.
• Access your deleted files from the Bin page in the sidebar.
• Restore files with a single click - they'll return to their original project.
• Beat board cards are backed up too, so your entire board can be restored.
• Available for all subscribers.

Editor Experience:

• Documentary Treatment Template: New template added.

• Scroll Position Memory: Your editor now remembers where you left off in your script, so you can pick up exactly where you stopped working.
• Enhanced Find: Faster search with improved highlight processing, and immediate feedback when searching your script.
• Standardised Keyboard Shortcuts: All screenplay block shortcuts now use ALT for consistency (Scene, Action, Character, Dialog, Parenthesis, Transition, Callout).
• Smart Selection: The Tab key now cycles through Scene, Action, Character, and Dialog blocks with context-aware suggestions. After a Character line, Tab suggests Dialog next. After a Scene, it suggests Action. It still cycles through all options, but starts with the most likely next block to keep your writing momentum going.

Scriptor Assistant:

• Multiple File Support: Add context from multiple text or screenplay files at once. Scriptor can analyse and reference content across all selected files in a single conversation.

Introducing Focus Mode

Version Control Updates

• You can now manually create a new version of your screenplay.
• You can also see your current version at the top of your version history.
• The previous 90-day limit on version storage has been removed. Scriptor subscribers can now store versions indefinitely.

Screenplay Editor Improvements

• The active element block is now reflected in the bottom toolbar.
• Whenever you switch to a new element (from scene to action line) it will be reflected in the editor. This should be a nice visual cue for those making use of the shortcuts.

Other

• Scriptor assistant updated to use the latest OpenAI models.
• Suggested assistant actions are now clickable prompts.
• Option added in the text editor for smaller font size.

Performance Enhancements

• 80% Faster Load Times: We've transitioned away from server-side rendering for editors, significantly reducing file load times in Scriptor. This change eliminates a major pain point and aligns with our goal of friction-free screenwriting.
• Caching & Prefetching: Files now load instantly thanks to improved caching and prefetching, enabling seamless file switching.
• Better Loading Experience: Removed unnecessary loading spinners across multiple pages. Where short delays exist, we've introduced skeleton loaders for a smoother user experience.

UI Improvements

• Stateful Toast Notifications: File operations now display real-time toast notifications, providing clearer feedback on background tasks in Scriptor.

Bug Fixes

• Title Page Update Fix: Resolved an issue where title page data wouldn’t refresh when switching between screenplays.

Pinned Scenes in Screenplays

• You can now pin scenes within your scripts to remember where you left off.
• Pinned scenes stay saved across all screenplay files.
• We've added more spacing between scenes in the scene navigator for better readability.

PDF Export for Text Files

• You can now PDF export your text files in Scriptor via the file dropdown.
• Note: Alert blocks and colours are not currently supported but will be added gradually to support all styles features.

Templates

• The Character Map and Film Treatment templates have been updated within the text editor templates gallery.

• Scriptor values your intellectual property. Your data is not used by Scriptor or OpenAI when using the Scriptor Assistant, protecting your creative work.

Availability: These features are now available to all Scriptor subscribers.

File Sharing

• Introduced sharing capabilities for screenplay and text files
• Added ability to revoke access and monitor view counts for shared files
• Added a new sharing filter to the quick search modal to track shared files
• Currently, shared files are view-only whilst we develop full collaboration capabilities. This feature marks the beginning of our collaboration roadmap across all Scriptor features. Private sharing via email addresses will be available shortly

Story Map Updates
